Humana Insurance

I have Humana HMO through Social Security Disability. My primary care doctor recently left the practice and moved away. No notice or anything, I had no idea she was leaving. I'm trying to get established with another doctor but my insurance won't cover another doctor until after the 1st of the month. I know that's only a little more than a week away, but I need lab work done next week. I've been doing cytoxan treatments and I need the lab work done before my next treatment. I don't know what I'm supposed to do. Humana told me I cannot see a new doctor before the 1st or I will have to pay the full cost out of pocket. I can't afford that so what is the alternative?

Thanks everyone! After several calls with the doctor's office they recommended I have my lab work done at the hospital. The labs were ordered by my nephrologist. The office said it should be covered under my previous referral if I go to the hospital to do it. I cannot do it at the office because none of the other docotrs will sign off on it given my complex medical history. UGH! It's always something… =/

Hope&Coffee June 24 at 8:01 am1 LikeThe doctors office should be able to help you with this. Do they have a Physician's Assistant or Nurse Practioner? They should be able to order it for you, if no standing orders were left. They aren't considered the same under the insurance as a doctor.

snowsgirl07 June 22 at 7:17 am1 Likefind out if your previous doctor left standing orders for the lab work (alot of docs do for labs that have to be done regularly). If they did you might still be able to get the work done technically under the orders of your previous doctor even tho they left the practice. Talk to them to see if that is the case and explain your situation, a good doctor office should try to work with you.
