Did I have a TIA?

or just a cluster type headache? My head, mostly on the left side near the back felt like it was sort of in a vice, I had PULSATING pain for FIVE HOURS at about a 8/10 on the pain scale. I was curled up in fetal position, eyes closed. Hubby tried ice, rubbing feet and wrapped a heating pad around my head. Finally came out of it. I was 2 seconds away from calling 911 since I was in so much pain I couldn't take anymore. I don't know HOW I could have even gotten into the car, you would have had to PRY me out of fetal position first.

The headache dissapated over the next day and by the following night was down to a minor nuisance.

But then last night my nose turned bright red and the left side of my face went numb for about 15 minutes.

I'm fine now.

What kind of test do I need now and is it too late since the episode is over?

And WHAT is going on? Does this have to do with my constant cranial neuropathies?

Thanks and HUGS, Julie

Hi Ann, so sorry I haven't followed up! I'm doing good. I had a carotid ultrasound and MRI and they found some blockage surprisingly so I'm now seeing a cardiologist. My neurologist has taken over my care after a fallout with my rheumatologist until I see a new one later this month. He really stepped up to the plate and I feel like I'm in good hands.
I"m on blood thinners now and feeling much better. I had another set of headaches but it never got as bad as that first one that tried to kill me. lol

    How are you Ann?

I am good. Eyes are pretty healed from the surgeries. It has been a pain not being able to see well enough to read well enough study and work or drive. But on Tuesday, I should be able to get a new prescription for glasses and then pretty much I am back to the regular like of retired woman who is going to school, doing tons of volunteer work, and trying to stay physically active.People who are conviined to their homes have my utmost respect and sympathy. I have been in hear for much of the past year, getting back out into the world feels like being released from prison.

I am so glad that your neurologist stepped up and that they are taking care of you. I love your fight.

UPDATE: Had carotid ultrasound, MRI and EEG (don't know all results yet) but platelets are only 500.000, not as high as before, off blood thinners and my neurologist thinks this is related to my cranial neuropathies and not a tia! GOOD NEWS INDEED!!!!!!! I'm SO HAPPPY!!!!

That is good news. I would think it was medication reaction of some kind.

Julie, I am so sorry and hope you're feeling better. The best advice that I can offer is "when in doubt, have it checked out." There are a number of possibilities but to be safe I would jot down some details like you've posted here and take them with me to the doctor. Hope you get some answers… feel better soon my friend :)
