Well I am doing it again. Day 2 of cold turkey quitting and doing ok. I have used Chantex before but now my insurance won't pay for it. I quit before but started again after some heavy stress.
So I am making myself accountable to this great group of friends.
I will count up till I have 30days then weekly till 6 months. I am counting on you to help me stay on track.

Congratulations and don't give up. I started smoking very early - lighting cigarettes for my Mom from the stove. It took me several tries to quit. I did hypnosis in a big group session - guy in front of me had a problem with the induction and distracted me. I went through aversion therapy twice. I have gotten out of bed driven to 7-11 bout a pack, smoked, one destroyed the others, and then hours later tried to put one back together again. Really addicted. And I used the nicotine gum. Then I went for one visit with clinical social worker who was also a certified hypnotherapist. We talked for that 50 minute hour you get. As I was leaving, I asked OK, when do you think I can stop smoking. She said, "How about today." I don't even remember the induction, but I have not had a cigarette since (about 20 years). You can do it.

Great job! I started using e-cigarettes (Green Smoke) last December. It's pricey but cheaper than buying cigarettes and it works. They have different nicotine levels so you can work your way down like the patch. I wish you luck, but if you happen start again I would consider trying them. Cold turkey is really the best way. I commend you.

I am so glad u are quitting. Here is a big thing that helped me a LOT! You plaquenil will not work properly if u smoke. I found this out 3 weeks ago at a Lupus conference held by the Lupus Foundation Of America. The doctor that was speaking pointed this fact out. I gave away my last smokes and have not smoked in 3 weeks and I dont want to smoke. Every now and then I find myself wanting to light one, but thats more habit then anything

I smoked for over 35 years before I quit smoking, I've been smoke free now for almost 16. Stress does make you want to light. With a multi-handicapped child and teen in the house can't avoid stress. But avoided all other situations I would typically smoke such as with coffee, after meals, etc. and try to channel thoughts somewhere else when stressed. When I didn't have a pack in the house, I'd start going through ashtrays for a butt, or check through purses and pockets. Just like any other junkie, so when I worked on quitting for good, I put a few away in the closet so psychologically I didn't panic for the next fix. I failed cold turkey but weaned myself off until down to 2-3 a day then wondered why bother. Threw the closet fix away. Fuzzies for that comforter. I know you can do it!

I am determined to see it through. Right now I am on a roll. Tomorrow I will try to go all day without one.

Day 4 and while physical effects are just about gone; I long for the time it would take to smoke where the boys would stay in and I could go outside for a few minutes and unwind. Yes smoking was my escape from the boys, if only for a few minutes, even though I could see them thru the patio door. Even at 110 degrees.
Thanks for all the thoughts and prayers!

    Hey Jeanne,

Congratulations! I know this is not easy. I have never been a smoker but have had many people in my life who are/were. I am thinking about you and saying a prayer for you. I am glad that you have a lot of support.

My father went cold turkey many years ago after about thirty years or more, probably close to two packs a day. He just stopped one day, that was it.

Please keep in touch, let us know how we can help!

    Gary

I quit 4yr ago using Chantix… now I can't even stand to smell cigarette smoke. I'm happy for you. Making the decision to quit is a big step and I'm here if you need to vent :)

in 1995 I had my first hip replacement ..I was 35 years old..the specialist at mayo in Mn ,came in the room and sat down and said I will not operate on you if you smoke..he had his nurses come in with pages and pages of what my lungs looked like because I had a 2 pack a day habit ..I was horrified ..I never lit another cigarette again!!! it scared the stuff out of me …
