Mamie1

Well, Hubby took me to hospital this past week. I woke up last Monday morning feeling sick. Nausea ! In all honesty I deal with that a lot. But not to this extent. By 11 am that morning I was getting pain. All in the stomach area.
( skipping the gross stuff now) My hubby came home for lunch and was surprised to see me so sick. He left work early that day. By 8 pm that night I was almost screaming.I have a very high pain tolerance, but this was no joke. Almost worse then labor. ( I have 3 boys) We got to ER about 9 pm. After Barium and CT scan ( yuck) ultrasound imaging of female stuff, blood work, meds, IV, talked with surgeon, ( and a Partridge in a pear tree…kidding!) They admitted me officially at 5 am. I stayed through Tuesday. No real diagnosis. Except now my appendix is enlarged and have several ovarian cysts. Oh goody!

Does anyone know if it is common for women with Lupus to have ovarian cysts?

Mamie1, I hope your feeling better. What you went through sounds very similar to what happened to me although I didn’t experience vomiting. I had unbearable pain and queasiness. I thought I was having a flare-up because I was doing some research in a boat that day. I thought it might be heat fatigue but I couldn’t understand why I was having severe stomach and back pain. My friend took me to the ER. The only thing that they could find was tumors on my ovaries. This was frustrating to me because my uterus was already removed do to tumors. After dealing with the pain for several months I gave in and had the surgery to remove them. After I recovered from the surgery I felt pretty good until I fell from a chair about a month ago when I was painting a room. Now I’m dealing with severe joint pain (more then usual). My rheumatologist increased the dosage of my muscle relaxer. The relaxers are not helping and the joint pain is getting worse. It’s becoming difficult to walk. My husband took me to ER yesterday. They took x-rays of my lower back and nothing was found. They gave me codeine and sent me home. I try to stay positive and keep telling myself that it will pass. It will pass.

It's common for "All" women to get ovarian cysts. Especially as we age and our hormones start to change. But complications from Lupus do make everything worse.
Sorry to hear you got so sick. Not fun I know. Hopefully you will heal soon. Do you see a Chiropractor or acupunturist at all? They are incredible helpful with chronic pain.

I don’t know why I never went to a chiropractor. That would be the smart thing to do. I will look up one today. Thanks ☺

After 45 years of lupus, I am almost surprised when I get a real diagnosis. But in my 60s I finally started getting diagnoses for things that had been dismissed as "you know these lupus people always have something to complain about." My pain is greatly reduced as the things there were not caused by lupus have finally been properly diagnosed and treated.

    Wishing you a great diagnostician.

Hope you feel better! Is the nausea something constant in your symptoms? Its something that is all the time with me but don't know if its a side effect from all the meds I am taking or something else. Please keep us posted if they find out more.
